Eat Your Fruits?

Posted on: April 16th, 2012 by No Comments

Did You Know…that keeping fruit intake minimal or non-existent as required for diabetics and those on low carb diets deprives you of important phytonutrients (plant nutrients like vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes & fiber) for your arteries, veins, capillaries, connective tissue, and lots more?

That being said, fruit contains sugar. Sugar causes inflammation. Yes, Nature put fruits on the planet for our consumption and they are good for us if we are in balance but if we’re not, and there are pathogens present, sugar of any kind will feed them. Bananas are high in sugar, berries are a better choice.

However, it is possible to go low carb without losing essential nutrients.

The best source of nutrients, other than from whole foods, is from whole foods supplements. They are much better absorbed than the manufactured nutrients you get in a vitamin supplement. It is essential for all of us in the 21st century to supplement considering the depleted soil our foods are grown in and the distance they travel to get to us (which is why I grow my own with cold frames 10 months out of the year in the northeast). Farmer’s markets are a good choice for supporting locally grown food but unfortunately, I find most of the produce is not organic.

Fruits and vegetables are the primary dietary sources of potassium. If you’re following a low-carb diet and aren’t eating at least five to six servings of vegetables every day, you may be lacking in potassium.

Unless you’re a tea drinker, there are virtually no flavonoids in low-carb diets. There’s very little flavonoid contained in animal protein, almost none in fats and oils, and only small amounts in vegetables. The best food sources…fruits…should only be eaten in very limited quantities (if at all) on a low-carb plan. But flavonoids are crucial to your health. They strengthen arteries, veins, capillaries, and nearly all connective tissue, and some reduce the risk of heart attack and certain cancers. So you’ll also need to supplement with these as well.

Consider supplementing with Juice Plus+®. It contains high quality fruits and vegetables that have been juiced, dehydrated, sugar removed, and encapsulated, providing the alkalizing, nutritious properties of whole food fruits and vegetables without the inflammatory consequences of sugar.

If your children or grandchildren are not veggie eaters, Juice Plus+® gummies are the insurance that what they are missing nutritionally from those foods will be obtained in a stress-free, pleasant way.
